Comments welcome:
Panasonic FZ8
Pros: 1. 12X optical zoom w/ reliable OIS ;
2. Light & realitively compact! 340 g/113 x 72 x 79 mm (Lithium-ion batteries); Possible for me to carry around!
3. Affordable (Around $300, including battery; SD cards are also cheap)
Cons: 1. No wide-angle (Can buy an inexpensive wide-angle converter at around $40 on Ebay but the quality is not guaranteed)
2. 1/2.5″ CCD, picture quality not as great as Fuji; noise problems at low ISO settings + too much noise reduction at high ISO (used Panasonic FZ5 once and was not sure I liked the color and pictures esp. those shot in very bright light; didn’t try it in very low light though)
Fuji S6000fd
Pros: 1. Very attractive 28-300mm (10.7X) zoom
2. 1/1.7″ CCD, very good image quality esp. in low light conditions; SLR-like
3. Similarly affordable (Around $250 after rebates at this time; AA batteries cost nothing; but 2Gb XD card is around $50)
Cons: 1. Too bulky, 700 g /131 x 98 x 128 mm , even heavier & bigger than many DSLRs, too inconvenient to carry :((((((((((
2. No OIS, questionable usability at tele end of zoom (but there won’t be too much need for a really long end zoom for me)
3. XD cards always turn me off (but I can try to overcome it…)
What I want/need:
Portability / Wide-angle & long zoom -__-b / Sharp pictures w/ vivid color / Durability
Not sure whether I missed anything… but so far I really couldn’t make up my mind 🙁
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
